If you want to have a good day, you need to get it off to a good start! The days your alarm doesn’t go off, you forget breakfast and miss the train never quite seem to recover. But you can make sure you have a happy day, you just need to find the right morning routine.

Wake up earlier (just a little!)

To fit in a great morning routine you need a bit of extra time. Setting your alarm twenty minutes earlier than usual will give you a few more minutes to set yourself up for the day. Waking up and knowing you have the time to do your morning tasks, rather than rushing to get out the door, can help you to start the day feeling more relaxed.

Eat a proper breakfast

It’s the most important meal of the day, but it’s also the one people skip the most! You don’t need a stack of pancakes every morning, in fact a big breakfast isn’t recommended as it can leave you feeling sluggish, but a homemade smoothie and a slice of wholemeal toast will give you enough energy to take on the day. You could even prepare a chilled breakfast, like a chia pudding, the night before to save yourself even more time!

Take a few moments for yourself

Feeling as though you have no time to yourself can leave you feeling low, but giving yourself some time in the morning can lift you right back up again! Listen to a playlist you love, or take a few minutes to meditate. Try clearing out all the noise that rushes through your head all day and focus on how you feel physically. It will give you a sense of the present that can be lost when you spend the day thinking about what's going on around you rather than within.

Batch cook your lunches

You know how it goes. You’ve got five minutes until you need to leave and you remember you’ve not got any lunch for the day. There are two options: you end up with a rushed sandwich and a chocolate bar, or you spend a small fortune buying lunch. One isn’t healthy for your body, the other for your bank balance!

There is a third option! It might sound like a lot of effort, but batch cooking lunches will save you time and money throughout the week. There’s plenty of recipe inspiration on Pinterest and you don’t need to be a whizz in the kitchen to whip up something healthy and filling on a budget!

Pick your outfit the night before

Unless you wear a uniform to work, picking something out in the morning can be time-consuming and frustrating. Spend a few minutes deciding what you’ll wear the night before and save yourself the stress in the morning!
